good daddy design by VICKI BOUTIN OPTION 1
WHAT SHE DID Instead of a paper bouquet, Vicki
crafted a paper-pieced tree. She punched,
stamped, and layered several patterned-paper
circles to create the tree’s foliage.
WHAT WE LIKED Vicki chose three uncluttered,
closeup portraits of her husband and son that
could remain the focus when paired with her bold
tree accent.
WHAT YOU CAN LEARN Punch elements to make
paper-pieced designs come together quickly. Take
another shortcut by accenting with purchased
embellishments, such as the chipboard
mushrooms, or download patterns to make your
own at ScrapbooksEtc.com/piece_talk.

OPTION 2 prom 2008 design by IRMA GABBARD
W HAT SHE DID Irma highlighted a single photo
w ith an arrangement of floral embellishments in the
s ame way Gigi did. She also loved the texture
c reated by the pleated paper strip and created a
s maller version to anchor her photo.
W HAT WE LIKED Irma added more oomph to her
p urchased flowers by arranging them on patterned-p aper circles. This technique gives the page a crisp
s treamlined look.
W HAT YOU CAN LEARN When drawing inspiration
from a layout, break it down and look at the
individual parts. Irma saw the photo placement, the
f loral embellishments, and the pleated paper strip
a nd gave each element her own spin.
